Good morning all,

We are still learning about Canada. Today, we will talk about the different regions and provinces in Canada. Click on this link and this link, and then follow the classroom’s instructions.

Task 1:

Read about one province or territory and write a concise summary about the important information to the rest of your classmates. Make sure to add any new vocabulary there. Make a quick comparison on the provinces and pick one that you like to live there; provide reasons for your choice.

                                        Nunavut

The written historical accounts of Nunavut begin in 1576, with an account by an English explorer Martin Frobisher. Nunavut means "our land" in Inuktitut. It was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999. The capital is Iqaluit, formerly Frobisher Bay, named after explorer.

                                                                          Iqaluit

Land area of just over 1,750,000 square kilometers, the size of Western Europe. It is One of the most remote, sparsely settled regions in the world. It has a population of 31,906,Inuit (83.6% of the total population), 100 as First Nations (0.34%), 130 Me'tis (0.44%) and 4,410 as non-aboriginal (14.96%).

Inuit and Inuktitut is an official language and the first language in schools. English and French are also official languages. Commissioner Premier of Nunavut is Nellie Kusugak.
In Nunavut, people are mostly engaged in oil gas mineral exploration, arts crafts, hunting, fishing, whaling, tourism, transportation, education. 678 persons mined gold in Meadowbank. It is an open pit gold. Also they produce a high grade direct ship iron ore.
Nunavut experiences a polar climate in most regions. For example average daily maximum and minimum temperatures are in July 12/4 °c and in January -23/-31 °c.

I choose Nunavut territory, because I am interested how people can live there. I thing the life there are very different. The people are very unique and live hard.
