During Great Depression (1929 - 1939) many Canadians were unable to provide for their families.
To avoid this in further Canadian Government has developed a program. It's called Unemployment Insurance program. Act came into effect in 1941. In 1971, the program began to cover maternity and sickness benefits. In 1996, the program changed its name to Employment Insurance (EI).Currently eligibility of workers benefits depends on how long workers have been employed and what type of work they have been doing also workers can receive the benefits when they caring for a someone. In addition EI places an emphasis on skills training.
